DescriptionThe squat, molded teapot is hexagonal, with a C shaped loop handle and a short, straight spout. The slightly domed cover has a rounded hexagonal finial. The body, cover, spout, and handle are vertically ribbed. The foot rim is echoed by an upper rim atop the shoulder to support the cover. The teapot is painted with birds and Rowers in the Imari style and palette of cobalt blue, iron-red, and green. The upper shoulder of the pot has a scalloped collar in blue with gold scrolls and edges and small floral bouquets of red and gold flowers with green tendrils. The center of the pot has been left white, while the lower midsection on either side is painted with "rockwork "in blue, with gold scrolls. On one side, a small red, green, and gold bird flies above the red and gold flowers and tall blades of grass, which grow out of the rockwork. The other side is similarly painted with larger, chrysanthemum-like flowers with green foliage and another bird. The outer rim of the cover, the upper rim of the pot, and the foot rim are decorated with a frieze of red flower buds alternating with green triangles. The tip of the finial is blue, edged with gold and small red and green floral sprays. A small band of interlaced red circles decorates the base of the finial. The handle of the teapot is painted on the outside with red flowers, blue and gold foliage, and red tendrils, while the inside has been left white. A blue and gold line delineates both ends of the handle where it joins the body. The spout is painted in the same manner, with an additional green foliate collar at its joint to the body.
