DescriptionPeacock made at the Meissen manufactory, ca. 1730, and mounted in Paris in gilt bronze ornamented with porcelain flowers probably made at the Chantilly manufactory.
A hard-paste porcelain peacock stands upon a porcelain base, flanked by a tree. Attached (with a single screw) to a two-tiered shaped oval gilt-bronze base, decorated with lizards (part of one missing), shells and acorns in relief, he looks over his proper right shoulder. A gilt-bronze floral branch emerges from the porcelain support, and is ornamented with soft-paste flowers (some pices are missing and there are minor repairs) which are screwed onto this ormolu branch. The branch is surmounted with a chrysanthemum (?)-shaped porcelain nozzle which holds a gilt-bronze candleholder, molded with petals. The bobeche has a beaded rim and is detachable.
