Christian Dior grew up along the northern coast of France at the Villa Les Rhumbs in Normandy. He spent time in his mother Madeleine’s rose gardens and many flowers inspired his fashion collections. He later acquired his own home and garden in the south of France in 1950 and designed pergolas for outdoor sketching within the garden. Dior’s evening dress from 1956 reflects his continued love of roses.
