DescriptionAmerican, about 1860. Boy's suit in three parts of cotton twill striped black and white; (a) dress, square cut neckline, plain top with some fullness gathered at back to waist band, full skirt gathered at back to waist band, full skirt gathered evenly all around, hooked in back, long sleeves rather full at shoulder, free standing cape-like panels from waist line front to waist line back running over shoulders, free standing panels on front of skirt; (b) breeches, rather full through seat tapering to narrow cuff, white cotton sleeveless top attached with draw-strings at back of neck and back of waist; (c) short shoulder cape with divided turned back collar over shoulders; border design on free standing panels, sleeves, hems, waist band, cuff bands, and collar embroidered with dark blue wool yarn in chain stitch.
