DescriptionPear-shaped sake bottle painted in Kakiemon style with birds and flowering flowering foliage.
InscriptionsMarks: incised Johanneum mark N=361-/W and incised into foot ring a former's (Dreher's) slash.
ProvenanceAbout 1730, Augustus II (b. 1670 - d. 1733), Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, for the Japanese Palace, Dresden; 1876, moved with the porcelain collection to the Johanneum, Dresden; around 1920s, probably sold from the Dresden porcelain collection. June 1, 1934, anonymous (Louis Jay and Conrad Binding estate and others) sale, Hugo Helbing, Frankfurt, lot 430, sold for RM 250. Dr. Korthaus (probably Wilhelm Korthaus, b. 1889 - d. 1968), Frankfurt; March 1, 1993, Korthaus collection sale, Christie's, London, lot 47, to the MFA. (Accession Date: May 26, 1993)
