ProvenanceAbout 1717, probably made to commemorate the marriage of Sylvanus Bourne and Mercy Gorham, both of Barnstable, Massachusetts; before 1965, sold by "a woman in Maplewood, New Jersey" who claimed it as "a family item" to Montagu Hankin (book dealer), New Jersey; about 1965, sold by Hankin to Donald Bourne of Sandwich, MA; upon his death, passed to his wife, merdith Wilson Bourne; 1997, upon her death, inherited by their son, Donald W. Bourne, Sandwich, MA; 2013, year-end gift of Donald W. Bourne and his family to the MFA. (Accession date: February 26, 2014)
