DescriptionSide chair (pair to 1978.406). Walnut, various inlaid woods. Metal label under seat rail "Marshall Field & Co. Fine Furniture, Chicago", "Galle" inlaid p. lower right of splat. Oval back with wide shaped splat inlaid with a chrysanthemum pattern. Stiles and top rail carved in fluid organic design ending in leaves at lower part of each stile with further carved embellishment at top of proper right stile. Elliptical seat set out from chair back covered with brown velvet. Rectangular panels echoing design of chair back carved in seat rail. Inset square on crest rail above each front leg. Knees carved in elaborately organic form over straight carved legs and organically carved feet. Shaped sabre back legs.
