Pickles were a standard feature at eighteenth-century English tables, served either as a salad in the winter or as an accompaniment to roasted meats. Cookbooks supplied recipes for pickling shellfish, nuts, flowers, eggs, onions, cucumbers, melons, and other fruits and vegetables.
DescriptionTriangular base with shells and sea weed in which three shell forms are set, delicate painted borders and oriental birds in each.
