Provenance1970, acquired from a ceremonial house in a Kwoma village, Upper Sepik River, Papua New Guinea, by Douglas Newton (b. 1920 - d. 2001), New York [see note]. January 27, 1972, sold by Staempfli Gallery, New York, to William and Bertha Teel, Marblehead, MA; 2014, bequest of William Teel to the MFA. (Accession Date: February 26, 2014)

NOTE: Acquired with 159 other panels. Newton was a scholar and curator at the Museum of Primitive Art, New York, which closed and became incorporated into the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
