Anchored Candy No. 5 seduces the sitter through its voluptuous and elongated form, brilliant color, and glittering finish. Using materials we may not associate with studio furniture—steel, aluminum, automotive finish—Beer references the way craft and handwork is a part of popular culture. We might look at this piece and think of the hand-work necessary to restore the sleek surface of a classic hot rod or to form the curvature of a couture high heel.
