DescriptionAt the top of the ornament is a horizontal, decorative bar with a pin stem. Suspended from the bar are two elaborate chains terminating in a reverse, heart-shaped pendant set with an oval, cabochon amethyst (about 26 carats). Flanking the stone are two fantastic, bird-like creatures with long necks and on reverse are four intertwined snakes in raised relief. The ornament is further embellished by granulation. It appears that the pendant once opened but has been soldered shut.
