DescriptionThis catalogue was issued in Amsterdam in 1892 as a memorial for van Gogh who died two years earlier, the sunflower being van Gogh's favorite subject. In this lithographed cover Roland Holst depicts his view on the artist Vincent van Gogh, personifying him as a sunflower. Turned away from the setting sun, the wilting flower symbolises the untimely death of Van Gogh, the halo referring to the artist's saintly status.
