DescriptionStanding frontal male with raised head on a tripod base. Figure solid cast in one piece and chased minmally; base cast in one piece, attached by a tang emanating from the sole of each foot. The figure has arms raised to either side terminating in flat ovals pierced with holes for candle sockets. He wears a pourpoint with a short skirt and small rectangular bag sleeves. Given the lack of indication of shoes, his hose probably had leather soles. The head has a roughly incised short pointed beard, straight mouth, flared nose, almond eyes, and bowl-cut hair with a central part. The base is triangular with shallow indentations in the center of each side and straight narrow legs with rounded feet resembling hoofs.
ProvenanceCollection of Principe Trivulzio, Milan. By 1956, Piero Tozzi, Florence and New York; 1956, sold by Tozzi to the MFA for $650. (Accession Date: December 13, 1956)
