DescriptionEach candlestick rests on a base composed of three cast crouching lion's legs, with a cast palmette at the join. The shaft of the candlestick is molded as a tree trunk. The cast unshaped nozzle is embellished with foliage and is fitted with a removable gadrooned waxpan.
Marks On underside of each base, maker's mark PS (Grimwade 2235)(repeated on bezel of each waxpan); lion passant (repeated on bezel of each waxpan); leopard's head crowned; date letter h (repeated on bezel of each waxpan); sovereign's head (repeated on bezel of each waxpan).
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on the underside of one foot on each candlestick, GB in cipher with a duke's coronet above.
INSCRIPTIONS: engraved on bezel of waxpan, "1", engraved on nozzle where waxpan sits, "1".
