DescriptionEach canister is rectangular in section, with bombé sides and an inset base with a molded wire rim. The sugar box is of a similar form, but square in section. The cast panels of the sides of the boxes are filled with complex architectural fantasies in low relief against a crisply matted ground. The arcades are occupied by figures in Chinese dress, waterfalls and foliage. On two sides of each box is centered an asymmetrical cartouch from which engraving has been removed. The cast hinged covers are modeled with coral and shells, and an applied cast figure of a lizard serves as a thumbpiece.
Marks
On underside of each piece, maker's mark PT (Grimwade 2239); lion passant; date letter m; leopard's head crowned
