Although inspired by 18th-century French prototypes, this chest of drawers has typically English features, such as bracket feet, a wood top in place of a marble slab, and mahogany veneers. Mahogany came into use in English furniture early in the 18th century, as supplies of the exotic wood entered London through trade with the West Indies.
DescriptionMahogany. Serpentine front, cut corners with carved and molded brackets. Green baize covered sliding shelf above four drawers with brass bail handles. molding below top drawer extends around sides. Carved skirt and bracket feet.
