DescriptionThe handscroll numbered RES.09.314.1 to .19 contains:
Set of eleven hand-colored horizontal ôban prints by Sugimura Jihei; the print numbered 8 in the Izzard catalogue is missing.
On the back of the first three prints, two double-page spreads from books, two horizontal chûban by Harunobu, and four small erotic prints, plus drawings of decorative motifs (probably used as recycled paper).
Signed "Sugimura" partly visible on the obi of the woman near the lower edge
ProvenanceBy 1909, sold by an unidentified collector or dealer in Japan to William Sturgis Bigelow (b. 1850 - d. 1926), Boston; 1909, gift of Bigelow to the MFA. (Accession Date: December 10, 1909)
