DescriptionThis is a bib necklace composed of small and large stainless steel washers cold-connected with steel wire. It has a simple, S-shaped clasp at the back of the ornament. The necklace was made after completing a commission by the U.S. Steel Corporation in 1961 to create created a jewelry collection to demonstate the beauty and durability of stainless steel. The commissioned jewelry toured the U.S. and was then exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Crafts (NYC) in 1963.

Provenance1970, comissioned by the US Steel Corporation (remained in posession of the artist, Mary Ann Scherr, Raleigh, NC); mid 1990s, purchased from Scherr by Mobilia Gallery, Cambridge, MA; 2001, sold by Mobilia Gallery to anonymous client; 2002, returned by anonymous client to Mobilia Gallery for credit; gift of Mobilia Gallery to the MFA.
