DescriptionThe three prints, 2009.4991.17 to 2009.4991.19, were probably cut from the same horizontal ôban sheet. They show theatrical scenes in the style of the painted billboards displayed outside the theaters.
A danmari is a pantomime scene with little or no dialogue, showing a nighttime struggle between colorfully costumed characters for the possession of some important object.
