DescriptionThe vase-shaped body rests on a trumpet foot. Around the foot rim there is applied beading, and the stem is chased with vertical fluting. The raised body is chased on the lower section with acanthus leaves, and around the upper rim there is a chased frieze of rosettes within panels, set off above and below by two strings of applied beading. The spout and handle, on opposite sides of the body, cast in several pieces and finely chased, are formed from two interwinging serpents, the open mouth of one forming the spout, the mouth of the other biting the tail of the first and forming the handle. The raised, spool-shaped cover is chased with vertical fluting, and rises to a dome bordered with a chased laurel band and surmounted by a cast acorn finial. The interior is fitted with a removable reservoir formed by two conjoined cones.
