DescriptionThe rectangular inkstand rests on four cast scrolled feet. It has straight sides, formed from rectangular sections of sheet, pierced with geometric fretwork. The flat base is secured by a hammered flange to the vertical sides of the inkstand. Square compartments defined by similar pierced panels contain small glass jars with silver covers for ink and pounce.

On underside, date letter A; leopard's head crowned; lion passant; maker's mark EA with I above and S below (Grimwade 528) .
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on stand, the motto of Lyttleton quartering Westcote, Talbot, and Beaufort, impaling Rich, for Sir George Lyttleton, fifth Baronet, as first Baron Lyttleton of Frankley, co Worcester (1709-1773) and his second wife, Elizabeth, (1716-1795) daughter of Sir Rober Rich of Roos Hall, co. Suffolk.
