DescriptionThe tapering cylindrical vessel has an applied molded wire at the midsection, and above the heavy molded foot rim, an applied scalloped border. The tankard is raised, and the base is inset with coarsely applied solder. The lip has an applied wire molding. The double-scrolled handle is formed of two fabricated pieces, with a shield-shaped terminus engraved with stylized foliage. The upper part of the handle joins the body with a long tapering tail. A five-knuckle hinge with ribbed hinge plate joins handle and cover, surmounted by a cast fleur-de-lys thumbpiece. A raised stepped, domed cover has a button top and a broad shaped rim with flat-chased leaves and scrolls. Four acanthus leaves are engraved on the top of the handle underneath the hinge.
Marks To right of handle, maker's mark AB in a shaped shield (unrecorded)(repeated twice on top of rim and cover); date letter a (repeated on underside of rim of cover); harp crowned (repeated on underside of rim of cover)
