DescriptionThe octagonal canister has straight sides and a hinged, peaked octagonal cover. The body is formed from seamed sheet with an inset base, and, around the interior of the rim, there is an applied wire that allows the cover to sit flush. The cover is formed from sheet and has a detachable urn-shaped finial. The upper and lower rims of the body are framed in borders of bright-cut geometric ornament, and the plain surface of the body is filled with engraved and chased swags, garlands, and ribbons.

On underside, maker's mark HB (defaced)(Grimwade 960)(repeated on inside of cover); lion passant,(repeated on inside of cover); leopard's head crowned; date letter k; sovereign's head.
InscriptionsARMORIALS: engraved on the front and back panel, an unidentifiedcoat of arms and crest: Quarterly 1 & 4, Vert an endorse between two griffins segreant combatant. 2 & 3, per chevron gules and or two eagles displayed in chief. Impaling, quarterly 1 & 4, az. 3 lozenges, 2 & 3, on a fess between 2 lions passant three crescents, and in pretence, a chevron gules between 3 swans. Engraved on back panel, crest of a demi-griffin segreant.
