DescriptionOne of a set of four candlesticks. Cast, on a domed shaped circular base with a guilloche border and cast and chased fluting outlined with matting on the dome. The baluster shaped stem has rope twist molding on the bottom and is divided into four lobes, each with engraved foliage and hanging flowers. The nozzleis gadrooned on its base with an elongated guilloche pattern above. The detac hable bobeche is in the form of a shaped circle and is engraved with a bird ona rock(?). There are the remains of an engraving on the base of the candlesti ck.
InscriptionsMaker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, JTV, a lily (Dennis, 336). Warden's Mark: 1778: a crowned P (Dennis, 20). Charge Mark: for small work, 1775-1781: PARIS in the form of a cipher (Dennis, 17). Other: an indistinct mark,possibly the discharge mark for 1775-1781: a monkey's head (Dennis, 336); ano ther unidentified mark, possibly the discharge mark for work intended for export, 1775-1781: a camel's head (Dennis, 16); a crowned A.
