DescriptionA pear-shaped chocolate pot on three scroll legs ending in foliage. The spout formed of chased berries and leaves (cocoa leaves ?), the handle a silver socket with turned dark wood end. An engraved cartouche with monogram "MM", the hinged lid with scroll thumbpiece and stirring-hole cover with mushroom finial swivel-mounted on a pin.
Marks
Maker's Mark: a crowned [fleur-de-lys, 2 grains], F[T]G, [a fleece] (Dennis 149): undersides of lid and body, both partially effaced. Warden's Mark: 1755-56, a crowned P (Dennis 314): Undersides of lid and body. Charge Mark: 1750-56, a crowned A with palm and laurel branches (Dennis 314): Undersides of lid and body. Discharge Mark: for small work, 1750-56, a hen's head (Dennis 144): rim. Other: illegible mark, rim. Engraved cartouche with monogram MM. Engraved "405" on one foot.
