DescriptionA huillier composed of an hourglass-shaped plateau with scroll edge, the feet chased with mussel shells at the corners, rocaille motifs at each end, and cartouched with engraved coats of arms in center. The top of the plateau edged with bound reeds and clasps, engraved with a Vitruvian scroll and a rosette. The circular bottleholders composed of 4 ribbed rocaille pilasters with laurel swags between, supporting rims of bound reeds.

Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lys, 2 grains, JLDR, (Nocq II p 53): 4 times underside of plateau rim, undersides both bottle holders. Warden's Mark: 1737-38, a crowned X (Dennis 48): Underside of one bottle holder, underside of plateau. 1739-40: a crowned Z (Dennis 48): 4 times underside rim of plateau. Charge Mark: 1732-38, a crowned A (dennis 48): Underside of both bottle holders, underside of plateau. 1738-44, a crowned A with palm branches (Dennis 108): 4 times underside rim of plateau. Other: import mark used from 1893, an and in a rectangular shield (Rosenberg IV 5907): Rim of plateau, rim of both bottle holders. Struck "402" underside of plateau, both bottle holders.
