Monotype is a printmaking method where a sheet of paper is pressed against a design created in paint or ink on a glass or metal surface. While making this experimental monotype print, Nancy Graves—long and widely fascinated by the natural world—introduced plant material to create layered accretions across the work’s surface. The once-living organic matter emphasizes the singular nature of this print procedure; both print and plant are entirely unique even as each come to life through a common set of processes.
