DescriptionA pear shaped coffee pot on three scroll feet, the upper part of each formed by foliage. The turned wooden handle is attached by an applied cluster of realistically chased leaves and berries changing to spiral gadroons near the base of the handle. The spout is formed by similarly chased, applied leaves and berries. The hinged cover has a reeded rim and an applied three bud finial with a base of leaves. The thumbpiece are of ribbed scrolling form with chased fluting below the hinge. Interior is gilded.
InscriptionsMaker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, CPD, a rozier (Dennis, 119).Warden's mark: 1777-1778: a crowned O (Dennis, 17). Charge mark: for large work, 1775-1781: a crowned A (Dennsi, 17). Discharge Mark: for small work, 1775-1781: a monkey's head (Dennis, 17). Other: general countermark, 1781-1789: clasped hands (Dennis, 312).
The Maker's and Warden's marks are on the body and the interior of the cover, the Charge mark is on the interior of the cover, the discharge mark is on the rim of the body, while the countermark is on the rim of the body and of the cover.
