DescriptionHand candlestick with cast shaped circular pan and a molded rim with a circular reeded base. Spool shaped nozzle is banded. The short curved scrolling handle has a ring grip underneath and a leaf shaped terminal.
Marks
Maker's Mark: two marks are legible, both incomplete. One shows a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, an H , the other shows two grains, an H and the bottom of an orb, similar to the mark of Henri Allain of a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, HA and an orb (Dennis, 2). Warden's Mark: 1756-1757: a crowned q (Dennis, 152). Charge Mark: 1750-1756: a crowned A with palm and laurel branches (Dennis, 23). Discharge Mark: for small work, 1750-1756: a hen's head (Dennis, 23). Other: an engraved H; Guarantee mark used after 1838 for medium sized works: a small boar's head (Tardy, p. 173).
