DescriptionAn ecuelle and cover on a shaped circular stand. The bowl is plain with appli ed rococco scrolling foliage and shell handles. The domed cover has a guilloche rim. The dome is chased with scrolling foliage on a matted ground rising to a cap of acanthus leaf on a matted ground with a large bud shaped finial covered with leaves, fluting and grapes (?) above. A crest is engraved between the guilloche and the scrolling foliage. The shaped circular stand has a guillocherim followed by molding. There is a crest engraved on the rim.
Marks
Maker's Mark: maker's second mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, AB, a trumpet, registered 1756(?) (Dennis, 26). Warden's Mark: 1755-1756: a crowned P(Dennis, 324). Charge Mark: 175-1756: a crowned A with palm and laurel branch es (Dennis, 23) and for small work, 1750-1756: an ox's head (Dennis, 31). Discharge Mark: for large work, 1750-1756: a boar's head (Dennis, 112), and for small work, 1750-1756: a hen's head (Dennis, 24). Other: Guarantee mark used after 1838: a small boar's head (Tardy, p.173). The Maker's mark is found on the handle of the bowl, The Warden's mark is found on the interior of the cover, the handles of the bowl, and the rim of the stand, The Charge mark is found on the underside of the stand, while the Charge mark for small work is found on the handles of the bowl. The Discharge mark for small work is on the rim of the stand while the one for large work is on the rim of the bowl and the cover. T he Guarantee mark is on the rim of the cover, the bowl, and the stand as well as on the handles.
