DescriptionOne of a pair of candlesticks. Cast with an octagonal molded domed base with areeded band encircling the dome. Octagonal knop rises to a tapering octagonal stem and shoulder. The nozzle is of a plain octagonal shape. There are marks of an erased crest on the base.
Marks Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains EPB, a cinquefoil (Dennis, 30). Warden's Mark: 1749-1750: a crowned I (Dennis, 99). Charge mark: 1744-1750:a crowned A (Dennis, 114). Discharge Mark: for large work, 1744-1750: a runni ng greyhound (Dennis, 114). Other: a small swan in an oval, Tardy, p. 179: "Lecygnes'applique depuis le Ier julliet 1893 sur les montres de toute origine e t les bijoux provenant d'Allemangne, Chine, Estats-Unis, Russie. Ce poincon s'applique aussi sur les ouvrages aux titres legaux provenant des ventes publiques et dont on ne peut pas determiner la provenance. Les droits de garantie ne sont pas restitues en cas de reexportation des ouvrages marques de ce poincon." Candlestick is marked on base and interior of nazzle. The mark in Tardy is on the rim of the base.
