DescriptionOne of a pair of cast trencher salts. Of oblong octagonal shape with concave sides between the molded base and rim, with an oval depression for salt.
Marks
Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, EPB, a cinquefoil (Dennis, 30). Warden's Mark: incomplete, probably the mark for 1746-1747:a crowned F (Dennis, 121) Charge Mark: indistinct, but probably the mark for 1744-1750: a crowned A (Dennis, 30). Discharge Mark: for small work, 1744-1750: a salmon's head (Dennis, 30). Other: Guarantee mark used after 1838 for medium sized work: asmall boar's head (Tardy, p. 173).
