DescriptionEach of the three vases (vase hollandois) is composed of two parts. In each, the upper part is of shaped oval section and tapers to a base pierced with holes which fits into an oval stand with four shaped openings along the shoulder. The three vases are similarly decorated, with a turquoise (bleu celeste) ground and an oval reserve on the front containing figures in a landscape. On 65.1819, two men and a woman sitting outdoors by the side of a house converse and drink. The reverse on 65.1818 depicts two men standing by a barrel in an abbreviated landscape. One pours from a jug into the other's glass, and a dog rests on a stool in the foreground. The reverse of 65.1817 is painted with a harbor scene of two men taking fish from barrels, with a skate in the foreground and a boat docked in the middle distance. Each vase is decorated with three additional reserves containing flowers and fruits, and four subsidiary panels painted with trailing flowers. The oval reserves are enframes by elaborate gilt scrolls and dots, and the bleu celeste register below the reserves on each vase is punctuated with small white panels with simple gilt decoration. Each stand is decorated with bleu celeste guilloche bands outlined with gilding, and the cartouche-shaped openings of the shoulder are bordered by bleu celeste within gilt lines.

Vase: interlaced Ls enclosing date letter F, painter's mark K of Chas Dodin (active at Sevres 1754-1802) below, painter's mark of a comma for Charles-Mereaud jeune (active at Sevres 1756-80) above, all in blue enamel: incised cn. Stand: encised cn.
