DescriptionOne of a pair of huilliers, an oval plateau with scroll rim and feet, engraved on the top with a spiderweb and flowers. Supports two round openwork bottle holders formed of pilasters with consoles and swagged drapery. Between, a support for the caps formed of two rings held by foliage on a bell-shaped base with cluster finial. Two loose stoppers, domed and fluted with cluster finials.
Marks
Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lys, 2 grains, FTG, a fleece (Dennis 149): Underside of plateau. Warden's Mark: 1763-64, a crowned Z (Dennis 26): Underside of plateau, underside of each bottle holder. Charge Mark: for large work, 1762-68, a crowned A with a laurel branch (Dennis 96): Underside of plateau and both bottle holders. Discharge Mark: for work intended for export, 1733 (?)- 1775, a little cow (Dennis 156): scroll foot of plateau, lower rims of both bottle holders, both lids. Other: Import mark, since 1893, an ant in a rectangular shield (Rosenberg IV #5907): Rim of plateau in middle, upper and lower rims of both bottle holders, both arms of cap holder, both lids.
InscriptionsPlateau engraved with 3 and 4 for bottle holders, a coat of arms, "71" "No 1/71.5" "159" and FAIT PAR FT GERMAIN SCULPr ORFre DU ROY AUX GALLERIES DU LOUVRE A PARIS 1764. Bottle holders engraved with 3 [289.2b] and 4 [289.2c] and "159". Bottle caps both engraved with "159".
