Kopf has often looked to self portraiture as subject matter for his work in marquetry, a technique that calls for the use of small pieces of wood to create an image—here, a rather realistic one. Telephone Cabinet, Kopf’s second exploration into the theme, uses simple cabinetry techniques to create a surface that envisions the artist in conversation within a public telephone booth, fingers bent and removing change from the coin return.
