Look closely and you’ll see Lia Cook’s shimmering, repeated patterns woven in web-like networks that resemble pixelated digital interfaces. Rather than siloing her interests in arts, craft, science, and technology, Cook synthesizes them in experimental weavings. As she says, “I combine neurological brain fibers, plant fibers from my garden, and woven optical lines and patterns drawn from past weavings. I use my immediate environment to generate new very tactile and intimate works ... Something about the textile engenders an embodied emotional response.”

Her weavings explore representations of draped fabric. Even though we’re not touching this textile right now, Cook wants us to really imagine the emotions and memories that a physical interaction with fiber can evoke.
