It’s a common joke that American pantry items could last a lifetime due to their artificial ingredients. Dolack plays on this through her brightly beaded sculptures of name-brand items such as Ritz Crackers and Velveeta cheese. In doing so, she explores how mass produced products that reach almost celebrity status through advertisements, packaging, and jingles become what she calls “foodstuffs of our communal desire.” By delicately beading these objects, Dolack elevates their material value to parallel their cultural value and allows them to truly last forever.
