DescriptionOne of a set of four cast trencher salts. Of oblong octagonal shape with concave sides between gadrooning and a molded base with an open oval depression forsalt. Engraved PNR on base.
Marks
Maker's Mark: a crowned fleur-de-lis, two grains, EPB, a cinquefoil (Dennis, 33). Warden's Mark: 17401-742: a crowned A. Charge Mark: 1738-1744: a crowned A with Palm branches (Dennis, 135). Discharge Mark: for small work, 1738-1744: a fox's head (Dennis, 135). Other: Guarantee mark used after 1838: a small boar's head (Tardy, p. 173). Maker's Mark is on both the inside sides and the underside of the depression, the warden's and charge marks are on the underside of the depression, and the discharge and guarantee marks are on the bottom of the rim.
