DescriptionOne of a pair of small, cast, open trencher salts.The oblong octagonal body has concave sides between a molded base and rim, and a deep oval well.
Marks
Maker's Mark: B/RIEV/MES, a fleur-de-lis (Helft, 1147). Maison Commune: Toulouse, 1762: a fleur-de-lis, TOL, two grains, an H between (Helft, 1145). Charge Mark: for large works, 1760-1768: a cinquefoil in a crowned shield (Helft, 1147). Discharge Mark: for large works, 1760-1768: a crowned shield with three female figures (Helft, 1146). Other: guarantee mark used after 1838 for medium-sized works: a small boar's head (Tardy, p. 173)
