You might recognize this cast glass shape—it’s the near-universal form for a house. Looking closer, you’ll notice it’s densely packed with the artist’s personal language of symbols, often repeated in his works at many different scales, including a self-portrait, bird, and ladder. The translucency of the glass medium allows us to see inside and outside of the house, collapsing interior and exterior thresholds. Today, the artist lives and works in Omaha, Nebraska, where a central part of his practice is teaching children and young people, including those with disabilities, to express themselves through art making across media.

ProvenanceApril 17, 1997, commissioned from the artist via IMAGO Galleries, Palm Desert, CA, by Daphne Farago, Little Compton, RI; 2012, year-end gift of the Daphne Farago Collection to the MFA. (Accession Date: February 27, 2013)
