DescriptionThis vintage open-face watch men's pocket watch, which belonged to George G. Snow (1843-1904) of Brockten MA, has a white enamel dial with Roman numeral indicators, a subsidiary seconds dial, and a transfer sepia print of Clara Hunt Snow, the owner's wife. Made by the American Waltham Watch Company, the works bear the name of the firm and the nickel lever escapement movement no. 3,572,520 which indicates the watch was made in 1887. The gold-filled case, with engraved foliate design on reverse, was made by Pioneer. Impressed inside the case: Pat. APL 22.79/C.W.C. Co. (star and cresent trade mark)/171855.

ProvenanceOwned by George G. Snow (1843-1904), a Brockton MA shoe manufacturer and philanthropist. It was inherited by his nephew and then consigned to auction (Skinner, Fine Jewelry, sale 2391, 12/1//07, Boston); Purchased by Yvonne Markowitz who gifted it to the MFA (Accession Date: January 23, 2008)
