One of 500 copies designed and printed by Updike at his Merrymount Press; a further five copies were printed on vellum. Although the title specifies 1928, the colophon cites a completion date of 1930. Updike competed for the commission from the Episcopal Church with three other printers (Bruce Rogers, and the Oxford and Cambridge University Presses). The project was financed by J. Pierpont Morgan.
