DescriptionComprised of thirteen sections of tubing of bone with ferrules of bronze at one end of each section. Tubing sections vary in length between 52 and 148 mm and are joined to each other with socket and tenon. Mouthpiece of bone with no defined cup, throat, or backbore. Bell of cast bronze (318 mm long). Associated chain (567 mm long) of bronze with rings at each end.
ProvenanceProbably around 1920s, sold by Roussos (dealer) or Yayas (dealer), Athens, to the Brummer Gallery, Paris; 1936, shipped from Paris to the Brummer Gallery, New York (stock no. P13068) [see note]; 1937, sold by Brummer Gallery to the MFA for $3200. (Accession Date: April 1, 1937)
NOTE: According to the Brummer Gallery stock card, this was “found in Olympia” and was “old Paris stock” that was acquired from the Paris branch of the dealership in 1936.
