In 1992, Jacobs designed a collection for Perry Ellis-full of models clad in oversized plaid shirts and disheveled hair-that came to be known as his "Grunge" collection. He was subsequently fired from the design firm, garnering a large amount of publicity for his irreverent and eclectic approach to American sportswear. In 2006, the designer alluded to the Ellis scandal for his Fall collection, combining grungy references with elements of the current neo-boho trend. Full of thick, often baggy, woolen knits in drab greens and grays and a styling clearly influenced by celebrities Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the collection mirrored similar presentations from designers like Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel. These sculptural heels, executed in black suede, silver snakeskin and tulle, were created in white patent leather and boot versions as well for the designer's more glamorous eveningwear section of the collection, and interestingly recall the "slap sole" shoes of the 1660s and 1670s. Here though, the influence of trendsetters like the Olsen twins, Nicole Richie, and stylists such as Rachel Zoe, whose thin frames were often offset by high platform shoes, is clear in the height and chunkiness of the heel.
