DescriptionThis highly-sculptural brooch is made of woven gold. It was fabricated by weaving gold sheet and wire by hand, off loom, in an "over 1, under 1" plain weave pattern. It attaches to a garment by means of a gold stickpin topped with a 14.20-carat, carved Brazilian citrine by Sherris Cottier Shank of Southfield, Michigan. The high polish of the gold enlivens the subtle golden yellow of the stone, whose carved, undulating configurations add movement to the organic piece.
ProvenanceThis brooch was purchased by Elyse Zorn Karlin (past president of the American Society of Jewelry Historians and the editor of Adornment magazine) from the artist for the museum's collection; Gift to MFA June 27, 2007
