Starting in the late 1940s, Richard Avedon made innovative images of lively and glamorous models that revolutionized fashion photography. In 1956 he made this image of supermodel Suzy Parker in a Dior evening gown in a Paris studio. In making his print, the photographer chose to reveal the background set up and the large skylight in the image. The image was reputedly one of Avedon's favorites; it was chosen by the artist's estate to grace the cover of the posthumous publication "Woman in the Mirror: Richard Avedon" (2005).
