DescriptionPiece of compound satin; deep green with secondary yellow weft, satin background with elaborate symmetrical heraldic design in plain cloth weave; symbols are Humilitas crowned, unicorn with flying scarf, camel-- lying in a basket-- bearing leaves or feathers on its back, beribboned frame, serpent swallowing figure, pyramided mounds surmounted by sun, and three interlocking rings on background design of scrolling foliage; right selvedge present.
ProvenanceRenato Bacchi, Milan and New York; sold from Bacchi to Adolph Loewi, Los Angeles [see note 1]; 1948, sold by Loewi to the MFA for $225. (Accession Date: November 18, 1948)
