Illustrated with examples of images produced by different photomechanical processes, including Gravure héliographique (from a photograph by Charles Nègre, facing p. 10), Héliophotographie (p. 59--after Charles Jacque), Gravure en relief, procédé de M. Dulos (p. 12), and Gravure photochimique (p. 9). An albumen portrait photograph of Poitevin faces p. 155. The brief introduction was written by Ernest Lacan.

NOTE:
Koehler was the first Print Curator at the MFA and served from 1887 until his death in 1900. He deposited the majority of his collection at the MFA in 1895-1896. The gift of Koehler's collection was accepted by the Trustees of the MFA on October 20, 1898.
