DescriptionJean Barbault was a French painter who became a pensioner in 1749, but participated in the carnival masquerade of 1748 dressed as a cadi or officer of the Sultan's guards. Barbault himself was commissioned to make paintings of the participants in the masquerade. Self-portrait in the Cini collection, Venice.
