The photographing of clothing fashions started in the fashion capital of Paris in the late nineteenth century. The earliest such images tended to be rather static portrayals of socialites and actresses. After 1900, the firm Cheri-Rousseau and Glauth specialized in creating photographic portraits and fashion plates for illustration in magazines such as "La Mode Practique." This charming and witty example shows a model admiring her own reflection, complete with her glamorous oversize ostrich hat, in a Victorian mirror.
